About Orthoceras
Orthoceras (meaning “straight horn”) were ancient marine cephalopods that lived over 400 million years ago during the Devonian period — long before the age of dinosaurs. They were distant ancestors of modern squid and octopuses. These fascinating creatures had long, cone-shaped shells divided into chambers, which helped them control buoyancy as they glided through Earth’s early oceans.
Over millions of years, their shells became fossilised in limestone and black marble deposits, forming striking natural patterns admired by collectors today. Orthoceras fossils are often associated with growth, transformation, and longevity, symbolising the continuous cycle of life and evolution.
Each Orthoceras table is therefore not only a beautiful furnishing but also a tangible piece of prehistoric history — a story of life from an ancient ocean, brought to your living space.
